Respected Academics and Research

Nevada is dedicated to excellence in original research, teaching, creative expression and intellectual leadership. With a full breadth of master's and Ph.D. opportunities and acclaimed faculty and facilities, students will find room to pursue educational and research goals in an accommodating environment that places a premium on academic excellence.

Nevada has more than 60 research centers and facilities, and dozens of state-of-the-art laboratories. The University is also home to the University of Nevada School of Medicine, where groundbreaking research efforts have been made in several areas of health, including cancer and heart treatments.

Nevada’s research enterprise includes the Nevada Terawatt Facility, which houses the most powerful laser on a college campus, the Nevada Seismological Lab, one of the most sophisticated large-scale structures laboratories in the country where pioneering earthquake engineering is accomplished, and the Academy for the Environment, which focuses on issues of sustainability in the Great Basin and Lake Tahoe areas.

Quality of Life

Reno is an affordable, midsized city with a vibrant downtown and central business district, cultural amenities such as the internationally-respected Nevada Museum of Art and of course, the natural splendor of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada range.

The city of Reno does truly abide by its motto as "The Biggest Little City in the World." It's a close-knit and welcoming community on the shimmering Truckee River where you'll immediately feel right at home. Annual family-friendly festivals such as the Reno Balloon Races or Hot August Nights set the area apart and are integral to the entire Reno experience.

Reno is also a diverse city of artists, creatives and outdoorsy people. The annual Burning Man festival attracts thousands to the nearby Black Rock Desert for a week of art and community. The slopes surrounding Lake Tahoe are a playground for world-class skiing, mountain biking and backpacking.
