Abstract:
Springs, wells, and seeps location data for most of the
Great Basin, taken from U.S.G.S. 1:24,000 scale topographic
quadrangle maps.
Purpose:
To identify the locations of groundwater sampling locations
within the Great Basin.
Supplemental_Information:
Data downloaded from the NHD web site in December of 2005.
Several watersheds in the NHD dataset did not contain any
spring or well data. An accompanying shapefile
'nowellspringdata.shp' contains a single polygon showing
the location of this no data area (southeastern Oregon and
northernmost Nevada).

Process_Description:
Geodatabases for every watershed in the Great Basin were
downloaded from the NHD web site in December, 2005. Separate
shapefiles containing point location data for springs,
seeps, and wells appearing on U.S.G.S. 1:24,000 scale
topographic maps were made for most watersheds in the Great
Basin. The 'dbf' files from the shapefiles were combined
into one shapefile and projected into Lambert Conformable
Conic projection, and clipped to the boundary of the Great
Basin as defined in 'gboutline.shp'. Some watersheds in
southeastern Oregon and northern Nevada did not contain
spring or well point data; a polygon encompassing these
watersheds was produced to show this area of 'no data';
this is the accompanying shapefile 'Nowellspringdata.shp'.
