Research Statement
Dr. Biondi is a geoscientist with experience and interests in climate and forest dynamics, Holocene processes, and environmental change. His long-term scientific goal is to understand climate processes affecting forest growth at multi-annual timescales in current, past, and future environments. He pursues this goal using natural archives of environmental change, such as tree rings. His most recent studies deal with the reconstruction of climate variability from mountain and treeline ecosystems in the Great Basin of North America, Mexico, and Italy. Emphasis is placed on responses to large scale climatic modes, such as El Niño and the North American monsoon. He is also interested in the application of tree-ring records to watershed and landscape management, especially in terms of fire, drought, and species dynamics. His complete curriculum vitae (abbreviated to 1999) is available here.
