Research Statement:

Dr. Underwood is an applied climatologist working in the areas of hydrometeorology, hazards, and urban environments. Much of his research is focused in regions of complex terrain and most research projects use remotely sensed data sets. Current projects include an analysis of extreme lee-side rainfall events in the Sierra Nevada, urban modified convection in arid regions, and intense rainfall and debris flow initiation in the western U.S. and in northeastern Italy.
