Assistant Professor in Human Geography

The Department of Geography at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Human Geography beginning the fall semester 2014. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Geography or related field by the time of appointment as well as evidence of successful teaching and a demonstrated capacity for research. The position will complement and expand upon the department’s strengths in human geography with desirable specialization areas including: cultural, economic, and environmental geography. Priority will be given to candidates with one or more degrees in geography; a record of teaching introductory, undergraduate, and/or graduate courses in human geography; and a growing record of scholarship that includes publications along with presentations, grant funding or research awards. Applicants should have an interest in contributing to a dynamic, growing, and collaborative geography department and working with interdisciplinary programs or centers at the university. The successful candidate will regularly teach upper division and graduate courses in his/her specialty as well as rotate into large introductory cultural or world regional geography courses. Candidate will also receive a start-up package. It is expected that s/he will also supervise graduate students in the masters and doctoral programs within the department.
