Resources for pre-collegiate students

Getting good grades in Middle and High school is one of the most important things that you can do in order to get the best scholarships and set you up for success at the collegiate level! Here at GEAR UP, we believe in providing the best outreach possible and that means giving our students the best resources for them while they are still in Middle and High school. Listed below are some great resources for students who need assistance in areas such as math, english, social studies, etc. Just click on the links and you'll be directed there! 


There is little doubt that no two people study the same way, and it is a near certainty that what works for one person may not work for another. However, there are some general techniques that seem to produce good results. No one would argue that every subject that you have to take is going to be so interesting that studying it is not work but pleasure. Everyone is different, and for some students, studying and being motivated to learn comes naturally. Your success in high school, and Middle school is dependent on your ability to study effectively and efficiently so here are some great links to get you started!!


Great Schools provides helpful resources to parents in order to assist their students through school.  The page will direct you to the homepage where you can find articles, guides and resources in order for you to more successfully help your child succeed in school.


Fact monster provides step-by-step topics on how to take notes, read textbook, do homework, Study for tests, and write essays. most topics are covered in this great resource for middle school students!

- HOW TO STUDY is a great educational resource for students.  Students will find over 100 practical study skills articles on topics such as Language Arts, Math, Note Taking and much more. 



Khan Academy is an extremely useful tool in which you will receive world-class instruction from professionals in the field of almost any math subject. Students can make use of the video library in which a teacher will work through almost any math problem you will face in your middle school or high school years. This free site will assist you greatly with any math guidance you may need.

- Wolfram Alpha

Wolfram Alpha is an excellent tool that uses dynamic computations based on a vast collection of built-in data, algorithms, and methods. Students may use this resource for homework help on algebra, science, statistics and more.


- CliffsNotes

CliffsNotes provides study guides on various subjects as well as other helpful sources that may help students get through their Language Arts class.  This link will direct you to free articles on improving grammar, writing essays, taking tests and more to help students improve their writing skills.
