Write your Preface

For the May 2007 commencement ceremonies, we asked graduates to write an epilogue to their college career.

This time, we'd like to ask our incoming freshmen to write a preface to their college career. In 75 words or fewer, explain where you come from and why you chose to pursue higher education and why you chose the University of Nevada.

Once we verify your submission using the contact information below, we will post your preface for everyone to see. (We will not publish your contact information.)

In 1989, George H.W. Bush succeeded Ronald Reagan as the 41st president of the United States. It was a year of debuts for Dilbert, the Simpsons and America’s Funniest Home Videos. It was also the year that Tim Berners-Lee created the first page of the World Wide Web.

The following year, the NASA launched the Hubble Space Telescope and the UN Security Council authorized military intervention against Iraq if the country did not withdraw its forces from Kuwait. Also in 1990, the world said hello to Will Smith on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and goodbye to the puppet alien, ALF.

Those two years are also the birth year of the majority of the University’s new freshmen, the Class of 2011, who arrive on campus later this week.

The following incoming students were interviewed by University Communications to introduce the Class of 2011 current students and faculty.
