Brief Bio: Claudene Wharton is Media Relations Officer at the University of Nevada, Reno. She was Public Information Officer for the Western Area of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension from 1999 until accepting her current position in 2008. She was born in Reno, raised in the Chicago area and returned to Reno in 1982, where she graduated With Distinction from UNR, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1986. After graduation, Claudene worked as Director of Community Relations and Development for The Salvation Army in Reno for about seven years and then served as Associate Director of the Washoe ARC for almost five years. In 1996, she completed her Nonprofit Management Certification, and in 1999, she earned her master’s in journalism from UNR. Claudene belongs to Kappa Tau Alpha, the National Honor Society in Journalism and Mass Communications. She has served as the Chair of Human Services Advisory Board in Washoe County, and on the Board of The Ridge House. Claudene lives in Reno with her husband (also a UNR alumnus) and two daughters, Chantelle (a recent UNR alumna) and Chohnny (a freshman at UNR beginning Fall 2011).

Brief Bio: Keith Hackett is a Sr. Associate Athletics Director for the Nevada Athletics Department. He has been a member of the staff since August of 2004. He is a member of the Senior Staff of the department and has Athletic Program oversight of Football and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country. He is also responsible for all capital projects and facilities related to the athletic program and has recently been involved in the departments Strategic Planning review/ update and the NCAA Certification process. Keith has been an active member of the University Disability Resources Coalition and served as co-chair of the committee from 2005 to 2008. Hackett has worked in higher education for 33 years. He earned his M.Ed from the University of Kansas in Exercise Physiology and was working on his terminal degree in Educational Leadership at Oklahoma State University when he was appointed to the position at Nevada.
