Introduction to the theory of engineering surveying and instruments used. Introduction to the theory of errors, statistics, field astronomy and topographic surveying. Prerequisite(s): trigonometry.

History and overview of civil engineering including professional ethics, design process, prototype fabrication and engineering creativity. Student teams undertake a term long design project.
