Engineering Summer Camps

Our engineering camps were developed to encourage middle and high school age students to participate in camps where they explore our campus, labs and various topics ranging from designing video games to learning about mechanics, chemistry, earthquakes and bridges. Our Monday-Friday (9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.) day camps provide young students with a glimpse into their possible future as engineering students at UNR, along with making contacts that will help make their entry into our engineering programs more successful.

The topics of our camps vary each summer, typically we offer 2-3 Intro to Engineering camps, a Civil Engineering camp and a Computer Science camp in the months of June and July. We extend the camps to students in all public, private and charter schools from all of Nevada and surrounding states, although we do not offer overnight housing. Our donors offer financial aid and scholarships to students with an aptitude for math and science, and to those associated with community organizations such as: Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Boys & Girls Club and the Reno Housing Authority.

Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA)

Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) is a college-preparation program that strives to increase the number of ethnic minority, low income, and first-generation college-bound students who are eligible to enter a degree program at a university.

As participants in MESA, students from middle and high schools participate in hands-on activities related to math, engineering, and science in addition to college-preparation workshops that help build strong academic skills and inform students about college and career opportunities.

Mobile Engineering Education Laboratory (ME2L)

Our Mobile Engineering Education Lab program (referred to as MEL) has visited hundreds of local public, private, and charter K-8 classrooms and science fairs in Washoe and Carson counties since its inception in 1997. Current engineering students present fun, hands-on lessons which connect engineering with the national science standards. This program allows young students to see and talk with college students and on special occassions local professionals in the field of engineering.
