The Advanced Manufacuturing Group works on applying novel manufacturing techniques to the production of renewable energy technologies such as solar cells, batteries and charge storage. Advanced manufacturing techniques have the potential to lower the cost of producing these technologies to make them competitive with traditional energy.
Currently, research is focused on printing as a low-cost approach to manufacturing solar cells. Developing printing techniques for the affordable manufacture of lightweight batteries, solar cells and other renewable technologies would enable more widespread use of solar technologies.
