The Renewable Energy Center uses facilities at the Redfield Campus for lab and research space.

The Redfield Campus opened in 2005 and combines resources from the University of Nevada, Reno, Truckee Meadows Community College, the Redfield Foundation, and local businesses.

The Renwable Energy Center is housed in the Nell J. Redfield Building, which contains approximately 55,000 square feet of sophisticated classrooms and labs.

Selected Equipment

Center equipment is PI lab-based and includes biomass-related equipment, solar cell device fabrication and testing equipment, and equipment for printing materials and devices. For example:

2-D/3-D printers

The Redfield Campus has six 2-D/3-D printers. Printer specifications include:

  • Printing resolution: 30 μm
  • Heating stage: Up to 60° C
    • Nozzle size: 21.5 μm
    • Nozzle heater: up to 70° C
  • Fiducial Camera
    • Monitoring a printed pattern
  • Drop watcher
    • A viewer for real-time ink-jetting
