Dr. Jafeth Sanchez earned her Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Reno's College of Education in Educational Leadership, with an emphasis on Higher Education Administration. Her position is focused on research & evaluation of the Nevada State GEAR UP program. The program's vision is to (1) change the culture of targeted schools to ensure that students are academically prepared and have the resources to attend and succeed in college and (2) increase NSHE involvement in GEAR UP schools to create a smooth transition from secondary to postsecondary for attendance and success. She previously taught mathematics at Procter R. Hug High School and was awarded Northern Nevada Math Teacher of the Year 2012 by the Northern Nevada Math Council. She was also a Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar. Her research interests and publications are focused on organizational systems, P-16 educational alignment, educational leadership (particularly women in leadership), gender and ethnic equity, outreach, student resiliency, and GEAR UP efforts.
