Monthly Exam Sessions

IMPORTANT NOTE!: We have updated the Nevada School Law Handbook for Teachers and a 2016 edition (gray cover) of the study guide is currently available at both the Reno and Las Vegas bookstores. This study guide covers all three examinations. New tests were written and will be used starting October 2016 and onward. The 2016 (gray cover) handbook corresponds with these new tests and we highly recommend that you purchase a new one as it has updated information. If you choose to study from the old 2013 edition (hot pink cover), you do so at your own risk.

Monthly Exam Sessions are offered 2-3 times per month, all year long in both Reno and Las Vegas. Test dates are posted the last week of the current month for the next month. For example, test dates for November will be posted before 5 p.m. on Monday, October 24th. You may only register in advance for one test date per month. This is so we can accommodate as many different testers as possible.

*Check-in begins at 3:20 PM in Reno. PLEASE no early arrivals! Wait outside of our office until we call you in. We will make one announcement at 3:20 PM to come in for the test. YOU are responsible for coming in on time if you choose to wait somewhere else.

If the status of a test reads CLOSED but the waitlist is open, please send us an e-mail with the same registration information listed below and title it "Waitlist Request." You are not officially on the waitlist until you receive an e-mail confirmation. The Nevada School Law Project is doing its best to accommodate more test takers, but we have limited spots for the waitlist. If someone cancels their registration, we will e-mail you and first ask if you can take the test on the given date. If you let us know that you are indeed available, we will send you a follow up email that will contain your official registration.

Registration:

To register for a Monthly Exam Session, please copy and paste the information below in an email to nvlaw@unr.edu.  Your registration will not be complete if you do not send us ALL of the information asked below.

  • The testing location (Reno or Las Vegas)
  • The testing date (noted above in the table)
    • E-mails without a chosen date or with more than one date will be deleted with no response
    • You may only register for ONE test date per month
  • Teacher License ID (regardless if expired)
    • We will not report results to the DOE or districts if you do not have a teacher's license number
  • Date of Birth
  • First and Last Name
  • District the results need to be reported to
  • Exams you want to register for: Nevada School Law, Nevada Constitution, and/or U.S. Constitution
    • You may sign up for 1, 2, or 3 exams
  • Mailing Address (Street, City, State, and Zip)
  • Preferred E-mail Address
  • Phone Number

After sending the above information to nvlaw@unr.edu, you will receive a reply within 24-48 business hours, unless an automatic response states otherwise. We do have a limited amount of space available, so please do not send us a registration request unless you are absolutely sure about the date. Please note that just because you send a registration request does not mean you are registered. Again, we can only test so many individuals on one day so it is first come, first serve. If space is available, we will send you a confirmation email that contains a MapQuest direction sheet as well as additional information about the tests. If space isn't available, we will let you know.

If you do not have a teacher license number yet, we need your date of birth instead! If you have just forgotten, you can Find your license number here. We DO accept substitute and expired numbers! Please note that if you do not yet have a teacher's license number, we will not report your test results to the Department of Education or any requested districts. This is because the Department of Education can only remove provisions for individuals with a teacher's license number. Therefore, it is your responsibility to provide the Nevada Department of Education and your district with test results. A memo with your test results will be given to you after you complete your exams; this document is what can be provided to the DOE and your district. If you need additional copies of these results, a $10 research fee will be required and you will need to follow the instructions below under "Request a Copy of Your Test Results."

Note: It is your responsibility to take the tests you need in order to remove the proper provisions from your license. We are not responsible for knowing which examinations you need to take. You can contact the Department of Education at 702-486-6458 between 1:00 PM-4:00 PM or visit www.teachers.nv.gov for more information.

It is strongly advised that you check this site prior to the exam dates for any unavoidable changes.

Cost*

  • 1 exam: $100
  • 2 exams: $115
  • 3 exams: $130

*There is a $15 fee if you mark in the test booklet.

* Retake exams are full price.

*Although we are working on other methods, we currently only accept cashier's checks or money orders to pay for Monthly Exams. We apologize but we cannot take personal checks, cash, or credit cards. The cashier's checks or money orders must be made out to the "Board of Regents" and will be collected on the day of the test before you begin. PLEASE bring the correct amount as we cannot give refunds!

If you have not received an e-mail regarding registration 24 hours before the test date, please check your spam folder. If a confirmation email is not there, simply send us an e-mail at nvlaw@unr.edu requesting confirmation. MapQuest direction sheets to testing locations and additional information will be contained in this e-mail.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We have updated the Nevada School Law Handbook for Teachers (2016 -gray cover) and it will be available for purchase in both the Reno and Las Vegas bookstores in the middle of August 2016. If you are planning on registering for exams in October 2016 or later, you will need to purchase this new 2016 edition. If you are testing in August or September, we will still offer the old test so you will be okay with the 2013 edition (hot pink cover). However, starting in October, we will only give the new test which corresponds with the 2016 (gray) version of the guide. If you decide not to purchase the newest edition, you will be at a disadvantage as there are new laws and regulations discussed in the 2016 version.

Request a Copy of Your Test Results
