Mexico can be described as Tequila, Mariachis and Tacos around the world. Mexicans are cheerful and passionate by nature, and enjoy dance, music, good food and drinks. Culturally, politically and economically, Mexico has been developing and rapidly changing. It has been generally stabilized in its economic and political system, and promoting balanced development among the diverse regions. Mexico can be described as democratic and market-oriented country in the twenty-first century. Its major industries are food and beverages, tobacco, chemicals, iron and steel, petroleum, mining, textiles, clothing, motor vehicles, consumer durables, and tourism. Its ethnic groups consist of mestizo (Amerindian-Spanish) 60%, Amerindian 30%, white 9%, other 1%. Mexico has almost 200 indigenous languages, and predominantly Spanish is a national language. English is quite demanding as a second/third language with various purposes, such as educational and business purposes. Its predominant religion is Roman Catholic 89%, Protestant 6%, and other 5%.
Mexicans pursue highly family and traditional values. Most women seem to take care of children and manage households at home, and there seems to be social classes between wealthy- class and poor- class. For instance, in Mexican dinning, the basic diet of working class relies mainly on corn and wheat tortillas, beans, salsa, and chili. However, in the upper-class, Mexicans choose various food items influenced by trends in the United States and Europe. It looks like there is some distinction of social-class in Mexico, which appears to be inequity of wealth, educational opportunity and economic prosperity in Mexico.
In a language aspect, there are almost 200 different indigenous languages. Native people in Mexico can originate back to about 1500 B.C. to 200B.C. and the first stratified civilizations appeared at that time. They were the Olmecs, Mayas, the people of Monte Albán and Aztec Indians as representative historical tribes in Mexico.
In overall, Mexico has rich and long history which mixed many different tribes, languages, and cultures with European cultures. It appears to be a wide variety of way of life in Mexico and it attracts many people in the world as one of the busiest spots for travel and ESL teaching.
