Field Experience Details

Our trip to Lamoille Canyon, Nevada, in the spectacular Ruby Mountains Wilderness, is scheduled for seven days that will allow optimum opportunity to study the ecology of the beautiful Lamoille and Thomas Creek ecosystems. We will stay in a motel in Elko, Nevada, with two participants per room (separate beds). Our days will be spent doing science inquiry investigations up and down Lamoille Canyon. Small groups will decide on an ecosystem science question to investigate based on observations of the study sites, design and carry out a field investigation using the process of science inquiry, and present results to the group. Our evenings will be spent having discussions about science, writing in our journals, and sharing experiences. We will have a group dinner on one of the evenings. Upon our return, participants will develop and implement a science inquiry investigation in their own classrooms that will be shared at our final session.
