Course Information

Each course is six graduate credits for a letter grade--not pass/fail. Registration for credit through the College of Extended Studies at UNR is required. Our grant will pay 100 percent of the $1,248 tuition cost. If you have not taken graduate courses at UNR, there is an additional $60 fee (payable to the Board of Regents). This fee will be due at our first pre-session.

You will also need to provide current immunization records at our first pre-session. Click here for more information on immunization requirements.

Attendance at ALL pre- and post-sessions is required! Do not apply if you cannot or will not attend all sessions.

Preference will be given to applications from school teams that include three or more teachers and/or administrators. Individuals are also welcome to apply but will not be admitted unless there is space available after all teams have been admitted.

NERDS will pay for all travel expenses (airfare and rental vehicles) and lodging costs (two participants per room). NERDS will also provide books and supplemental materials for all participants. Participants are responsible for food and incidental costs during the field experience.

NERDS is for teachers who are serious about improving their science inquiry teaching skills and who will commit to the implementation of science inquiry in their classrooms on an ongoing basis. NERDS is NOT a shopping expedition, a free trip, or a leisurely tour. Come prepared to work, learn deep content, engage in exciting investigations, and share collegial experiences that will change your teaching forever.
