Each course is 6 graduate credits for a letter grade--not
pass/fail. Registration for credit through the College of Extended Studies
at UNR is required. Our grant will pay 100 percent of the tuition costs.
If you have not taken graduate courses at UNR, there is an additional $60
fee. This fee will be due at our first pre-session.
Preference will be given to first time applicants and to
applications from school teams that include 3 or more
teachers/administrators. Individuals are also welcome to apply.
The grant pays for plane fare and lodging for pre and post
sessions for participants in and around Las Vegas. We also pay plane fare
for all Oregon participants to and from our field location, and for
rental vans and shared motel rooms. Each participant will also receive
instructional materials including texts, maps, and field guides.
Participants pay for their own meals and incidental expenses. The grant
pays up to $58/day per person for motel rooms. Singles must cover the
difference.
NERDS is for teachers who are serious about improving their
science inquiry teaching skills and who will commit to the implementation
of science inquiry in their classrooms on an ongoing basis. NERDS is NOT
a shopping expedition, a free trip, or a leisurely tour. Come prepared to
work, learn deep content, engage in exciting investigations, and share
collegial experiences that will change your teaching forever.
