Year Round Outreach Programs
What's our Multi-Track/Year-Round Pen Pal Program? Northern Nevada Writing Project’s Multi-Track/Year-Round Initiative is an opportunity for teachers on the non-traditional track to connect and their students to write in an authentic venue. Too often teachers from schools on non-traditional schedules feel isolated from opportunities and programs put on by NNWP over the summer months. However, NNWP has created opportunities just for them! Our MT/YR Pen Pal Program pairs
classes of the same track color to exchange writing. Teachers attend a
brief orientation at the beginning of the year, where they meet their
partners and gather new inspiration for their writing curriculum. They
also use the time to plan out their year and match their students as pen
pals. Over the course of Now in its second year, the Multi-Track/Year-Round Pen Pal Program has inspired teachers and motivated students to produce some great writing! In the 2005-2006 school year, participating teachers exchanged writing assignments based on Barry Lane's 51 Wacky We-Search Reports. All participants received a free copy of this marvelous book.
