Northern Nevada Writing Project: Our Summer Writing Camps for Youth

Each summer, teams of Northern Nevada Writing Project Consultants pair up to teach summer writing camps out in the schools or on the University Campus. Our TWIST Camps and our "Write Stuff" sessions are always popular with students who love to write and who want to be around other students with similar interests.

Kim Bronk is our Northern Nevada Writing Project's TWIST Coordinator.  She took the NNWP Summer Institute in 1999.  Kim teaches at Whitehead Elementary in Sparks, Nevada.

Phil Harriman and Lori Farias are our "Write Stuff" Instructors for the University of Nevada-Reno's Summer Kids-U Program. Phil has been a TC since his 1987 Summer Institute, and Lori became a TC during the summer of 1998. Both Phil and Lori teach at Sparks High School.

What is a T.W.I.S.T Camp?

T.W.I.S.T. stands for Target Writing in the Summer Time. These are week-long camps for children who love to write.  Specially-trained Northern Nevada Writing Project Teacher Consultants spend quality time with their small camps of writers, challenging, inspiring, and working one-on-one with them to write all types of writing often not covered in traditional classrooms. Students' published products are funny, sad, sweet, and crazy.  If your children love to write, a T.W.I.S.T. camp is a great place for them to be this summer. Our T.W.I.S.T. calendar for the upcoming summer is usually prepared in March and distributed in April.  Sign-ups happen on a first-come, first-served basis.  The camps are limited to 20 participants.

2008 TWIST dates are now available. You can download our TWIST flyer and mail in your registration by clicking here.

New this year: You may also reserve your child's spot at one of our TWIST camps with your credit card by calling today: 775-784-1161.

These camps sometimes fill quickly. We apologize if a camp fills and we are slow in uploading the information here on-line.

NNWP and UNR's Kids U Program

Kids U is a long-running program at the University of Nevada-Reno.  Students on summer break enroll in half-day classes, taught by energetic instructors.  For over a dozen years now, the NNWP has provided writing-based classes as part of the Kids U menu to students.  The Write Stuff is just one of our menu items we offer these energetic students.
