Cindy Wood

Cindy Wood has worked for WCSD for 17 years, transferring to the LRC in 2004 from Caughlin Ranch Elementary School library.  Cindy has an A.A. degree and a Librarian Certification. She’s involved in Nevada Reading Week as part of the committee that designs and sells the T-shirts each year. Cindy feels the LRC captures the best of both worlds for her as a librarian. She is able to continue to instill a love of reading in elementary students as she works with the students in the Early Learning Center, a first- through third-grade classroom that is located in the College of Education. And she also brings her background and expertise as she works closely with college students and faculty in the College of Education.  She loves to see students achieve their education goals and then continue to work with them as peers as they teach throughout the district..

Ellen Fockler

Ellen Fockler has been at the LRC for nearly seven years with an accumulated 43 years with the school district. She has a master’s degree in English and all but dissertation in her doctorate degree in Literacy Studies. Ellen coordinates the 90 school libraries in the district, providing hardware and software assistance and training, professional development opportunities during monthly or quarterly meetings, and oversees the Nevada Reading Week Conference which is attended by 225 teachers and librarians from Washoe County and throughout northern Nevada and parts of California. The cooperative effort between WCSD and the College of Education combines resources to provide both practicing teachers and preservice teachers access to a wide range of teaching materials, children’s books and technology. It’s also an excellent place to find professional journals that teachers can not afford to buy on their own. Being able to check out kits and expensive models like skeletons and the organs in the human body are an invaluable resource to educators.
