The media library, a unique cooperative effort of the College of Education and the Washoe County School District (WCSD), contains a wide variety of material designed for curriculum enrichment, lesson enhancement, and professional development.
About the Media Library
Patrons of the Learning & Resource Center consist of all university students and faculty, K-12 teachers from northern Nevada, and educators from private schools and home schools. They may draw from the more than 42,000 materials housed in the Learning & Resource Center in a variety of different media formats including print materials, audio and video tapes, DVD's, instructional kits, study prints, slides, computer software, artifacts, and manipulatives. VHS and digitals camcorders, tripods, external microphones and cassette voice recorders are also available for checkout.
The center is equipped for viewing and reviewing all materials located in the media library. The library also has an extensive collection of children's books to enhance lessons and presentations. Among the holdings of the Learning & Resource Center are resource materials in the professional section, periodicals, journals, the Nevada section, substance abuse prevention materials, books from the Dean's Grant for Special Education, the Equity Education grant, and a growing collection of English as a Second Language (ESL) resources. The professional collection also includes a variety of university and school district staff development materials as well as the Washoe County School District adopted textbooks for K-12 grades.
Nevada CD Software Preview Center
Located in the Learning & Resource Center, the Nevada CD Software Preview Center was established by the Washoe County School District and allows College of Education faculty and students and Washoe County School District teachers and personnel to view educational CD programs. This cooperative effort between the college and the school district allows teachers and future teachers to preview software before purchase for use in their classrooms. Education students use the Preview Center in class assignments integrating this latest technology into their class curriculum and lesson plans. They can also access the PLATO software, WCSD's credit recovery program for middle and high school students, and take the PRAXIS practice exam. When these future teachers go out into their school districts, they will have a greater knowledge of this valuable teaching tool and be an advocate for increased technology of this valuable teaching tool and be an advocate for increased technology in the classroom.

Everyone engaged in teaching and learning activities will find resources available to them in the Learning & Resource Center. Anyone desiring to fill out a patron information form is invited to do so. Those teachers and students who are then entered into our Patron Data Base may check out materials.
