Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.)
The Ed.D. and Ph.D. are the terminal degrees in educational leadership. The program provides an opportunity for personalized specialization compatible with the student's career objective. The purpose of the doctoral degree is to increase the knowledge and skill base in educational administration, enhance research skills and provide the necessary credentials for those desiring to pursue a career in higher education or the public schools.
The Ed.D. program contains five components:
- Master's
- Research
- Educational Leadership Core
- Comprehensive Examination
- Program Emphasis
The number of courses required in each component is dependent on the student's academic background, preparation and the degree pursued.
Each program option has been designed to meet administrative certification requirements in Nevada and to reflect recommendations from professional associations. Programs can be individually designed to meet specific state certification requirements while accommodating professional needs.
It should be noted that typical programs of study for the Ed.D. range from 100-120 credits. In analysis, the total credit requirement will be dependent on the chosen career emphasis and the program of study developed with the student and advisor. The minimum number of credits required by the Graduate School is 90 credits for the Ed.D., of which 30 can be granted from the transfer of credits from a Master’s degree.
