Early Learning Center is a multi-aged primary (1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade) classroom housed in the College of Education and administered by Washoe County School District. This classroom serves as a model of current teaching practices for undergraduate and graduate students, teachers, and administrators. This classroom also serves as a research site for studies focused on literacy education.

For 37 years, the Center for Learning and Literacy has helped
children learn to read and write. Our mission is to improve literacy
instruction in Nevada through teacher education, and to provide
literacy services to children and adults in Northern Nevada. |
Girls Math and Technology Program |
The Girls Math & Technology Program is available to Northern
Nevada girls entering grades 7 and 8. Its major goals are to
enhance knowledge and skills, boost confidence and interest, and
increase awareness of career options in the areas of mathematics
and technology. |

This is a federally funded leadership doctoral program in special education that provides financial support and prepares leaders for higher education and local leadership positions. These future leaders will be uniquely qualified to prepare quality special education teachers to meet the demands of teaching in the 21st century, contribute to the knowledge base of the field through empirical research, and begin their careers through competencies developed during coursework and internships/fieldwork. The focus of this program is to develop doctorate level leadership personnel who are able to provide immediate maximum impact on the training of new personnel and improve teacher quality. |

National Board Certification® measures a teacher's practice against high and rigorous standards. The process is an extensive series of performance-based assessments that includes teaching Portfolios, student work samples, videotapes and thorough analyses of the candidates' classroom teaching and student learning. EDS offers a course to support teachers going through the National Board Certification application process. |

The mission of Nevada UCED is to cooperatively work with consumers, agencies, and programs to assist Nevadans with developmental disabilities of all ages to be independent and productive citizens who are included in their communities. This mission is accomplished by providing interdisciplinary training, offering model exemplary services, conducting interdisciplinary evaluation, disseminating information on developmental disabilities and service options, providing technical assistance, and conducting relevant research and evaluation studies. |

The goal of the Nevada Dual Sensory Impairment Project is to enhance the educational services provided to children and youth, birth through 21 years of age, with both vision and hearing impairments. The project provides statewide technical assistance to support parents, services providers, and other service agencies in meeting the educational needs of children who have dual sensory impairments. |

The NERDS Institute offers summer courses for teachers and pre-service teachers at field locations such as the study of tide pools in Oregon and geology in Zion National Park in Utah. The NERDS Institute is dedicated to helping teachers develop and increase their skills in teaching science through the process of inquiry. Every NERDS Institute course is designed to lead teachers step by step from "expert" designed investigations to student-centered investigations through an active process of participation, which is easily transferred into the classroom setting. |

The Northern Nevada Writing Project is a state-funded program committed to improving student writing by promoting the teaching of writing, recognizing teacher expertise and leadership, building a foundation of research, and encouraging teachers as writers. |

Nevada Professional Development for Teachers of English Language Learners (Nevada ProTELL) is a collaborative effort of the Department of Educational Specialties and the Northeastern, Northwestern, and Western Regional Professional Development Programs. This five-year professional development project (2002-2007) is funded by a Title III Grant from the U.S. Department of Education, designed increase the number of teachers with endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL). |

Technology Enhanced Education for Special Education Teachers (TEESET) is a federally-funded project that seeks to increase the number of Nevada teachers licensed to teach students with low-incidence disabilities. TEESET provides support for licensure and master's degree programs in the areas of: (a) multiple disabilities/mental retardation; (b) early childhood special education/early intervention, and (c) emotional/behavioral disorders. |

Reading First is a federal program with a primary goal to ensure that all children in U.S. schools learn to read well by the end of third grade. The overall grant period is 6 years, with a mid-point at 3 years where states and districts receiving grants will need to show K-3 reading progress to continue receiving Reading First awards. |

The Raggio Center provides excellence in K-12 outreach, professional development, research, and evaluation in STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics). The center is the home of several federal and state grants and the focus of interdisciplinary collaboration across the campus for the development of high quality teacher preparation in the STEM disciplines. |
