Master of Education in Equity and Diversity in Educational Settings

The Master of Science in Equity and Diversity in Education is for those who wish to focus advanced study on using inclusive teaching methods to serve the diverse learners who comprise today's classrooms. Multiple types of learner differences are addressed, with special attention to learner characteristics as they might relate to gender, language, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and exceptionality.

Whether you are a K-12 teacher or you work with young people in another support role, the master's degree in equity and diversity in educational settings (EDES) is a good choice for you if you are interested in human diversity and equitable educational opportunities.

This program has both the master of education (M.Ed., non-thesis) and the master of science (M.S., thesis) degree options. These degrees offer advanced study focusing on diverse students, with special attention paid to gender, language, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and exceptionality. You may also focus on inclusive teaching methodologies with diverse learners in the areas of civic education, mathematics, and/or science education.

Students will develop an in-depth understanding of using inclusive teaching methods to serve the diverse learners. Students enhance their pedagogical knowledge, skills, and dispositions through teaching subject matter in a manner that accounts for varied student backgrounds, with special attention to learner characteristics as they might relate to gender, language, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and exceptionality. Teacher leadership is stressed with graduates able to interpret and evaluate research findings and apply them to educational settings.
