Master of Education, Educational Leadership
The master of education (M.Ed.) degree requires 37 credit hours. The M.Ed. is an individualized program designed for those interested in a focus on K-12 educational leadership.
The study of leadership allows individuals to examine the fundamental institutions in society, to develop skills in research and analysis, and to prepare to enter challenging and influential roles in many areas.
Our M.Ed. graduates have become school principals, program coordinators and central office administrators, district superintendents, state superintendents and directors of state and national organizations - one has served as Assistant Secretary of Education for the United States Department of Education.

- Three professional letters of recommendation
- Qualified in the professional judgment of the program faculty
The specific curriculum requirements are adapted to the professional needs of the student. Students should not enroll in any graduate-level course without first securing the approval of the program that such a course is acceptable toward a selected major or minor.
The MEd and MA Degrees in Educational Leadership require students to develop a program of study in conjunction with their advisor and committee that includes a minimum of 39 graduate credits, at least 15 of which must be at the 700-level.
Completion Requirements for the Master's Degree include:
- Filing a program of study, approved by the Graduate School
- Maintaining a 3.0 GPA in all graduate work
- Successful completion of a culminating comprehensive examination
A minimum of 39 credits are required. All degree candidates are required to complete one or more research courses. In addition, all students are required to take 1 to 3 credits of comprehensive examination which may be above the 39 credits of approved courses. A maximum of six graduate credits of S/U grades may be applied toward a master's degree.
