Art History, Minor

The Department of Art offers a program of undergraduate instruction in art history, and students are required to complete 21 credits in recommended courses.

Minor Requirements

Student majoring in another field can minor in art history by completing the following:

Studio Art majors can only use ART 100 and one other studio art course to complete this minor. Studio art majors may not use required art history courses (ART 260R, ART 261) to complete this minor. Therefore, studio art majors will require five additional art history courses not taken for the major to complete the art history minor.

  • ART 100 - Visual Foundations (3 units)
  • ART 260R - Survey of Art History I (3 units)
  • ART 261 - Survey of Art History II (3 units)

One studio course selected from the following: (3 units)

  • ART 101 - Drawing I (3 units)
  • ART 141 - Introduction to Digital Photography (3 units)
  • ART 211 - Ceramics I (3 units)
  • ART 216 - Sculpture I (3 units)
  • ART 221R - Beginning Printmaking - Intaglio (3 units)
  • ART 224 - Begin Printmaking: Relief (3 units)
  • ART 231 - Painting I (3 units)
  • ART 245 - Digital Media I (3 units)
  • Three additional upper-division (300 - 499) courses in Art History (9 units)
