Listed are the University Core Curriculum, (additional) College of Science, Major/Minor requirements for the degree Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, option of Applied Math.

  • University Core Curriculum Requirements
  • Additional College of Science Requirements
    • Foreign Language - Students must successfully complete a fourth semester college course in a foreign language or demonstrate proficiency as determined by placement examination, or other means, by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics suggests that students choose French, Russian, or German as their required language.
    • Additional Social Science Course (3 credits) - Select an additional course from the Core Curriculum Social Sciences list. This course must be from a different department than the first social sciences course.
    • Humanities (3 credits) - Select a humanities course from the departments of history, philosophy, English or foreign languages and literatures at the 200-level or above. This course must be from a different department than the student's major or minor. Contact advisor for approved courses.

    • Math 181, Calculus I - 4 credits
    • Math 182, Calculus II - 4 credits
    • Math 283, Calculus III - 4 credits
    • Math 285 Differential Equations 3
    • Math 310, Introduction to Analysis I - 3 credits
    • Math 311, Introduction to Analysis II - 3 credits
    • Math 330, Linear Algebra I - 3 credits
    • Math 420, Mathematical Modeling - 3 credits
    • Math 461, Probability Theory - 3 credits
    • Math 488, Partial Differential Equations - 3 credits

    Additional mathematics or statistics courses numbered 300 or above (except Math/Stat 352).

  • Minor Requirements
    The Mathematics and Statistics department accepts any minor from any other UNR department.
  • Electives: 10 - 18 Credits.
  • Total Credits Required: 128
    Forty or more credits must be in courses numbered 300 or above.
