Dr. Franco Biondi has been selected to receive the 2008 Outstanding Researcher Award. He is being recognized for the $1.3 million grant for fire history work in the Great Basin and several publications in major journals. He will be honored at the annual John W. Mackay Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Siena Hotel Casino in Reno, beginning at 5:30 in the evening. Congratulations!

Former climatologist, geography professor John James dies
January 18, 2007

John James, a longtime University professor of geography as well as state climatologist for the State of Nevada, passed away Monday following a long battle with Parkinson's disease. During an on-campus interview in his cramped office in the Mackay Science Building in 1998, James noted that he loved living in northern Nevada and thoroughly enjoyed his work.
