Information for Faculty
Process for Approval of Existing Courses to Core Level Designation
Instructions to the faculty member:
- Proposals are required to be submitted as MS Word files (or in MS Word
format), HTML, or PDF files.
- The proposals should be e-mailed to the Core Curriculum: core@unr.edu
- The deadline for submission is the 4th for each of the months September,
October, November, February, March and April each academic year. Please
see the schedule for details.
- Please include an email address and contact information on the course
proposal application.
The proposals need to include the following:
- A memo explaining how the course meets the five
guidelines for the capstone area, diversity
guidelines or mission of the specific core area being addressed. Please
address each guideline specifically.
- Provide information regarding course assessment of student learning and
assessment as it relates to the core curriculum objectives. Student assessment,
any external assessment and/or any newly planned methods of assessment.
- Include a syllabus for the course. This should include course texts, goals,
student reading and writing requirements, and a schedule that indicates
how many days or weeks of the course are devoted to each major topic or
issue.
- Table of contents of class assigned readers.
- Explicit information regarding grading.
- Explicit information regarding integration of oral communication skills
or presentations, the writing component, exams. Also, include any information
regarding computation or math literacy skills where appropriate.
- Language within the syllabus that clearly indicates to students that this
course is a capstone and requires them to integrate skills and knowledge
gained throughout their development in the core curriculum.
