GUIDELINES FOR DIVERSITY COURSES

There are three criteria that a course must meet in order to count as a diversity course:

The proposal for diversity course approval should address the following:

  1. How the course specifically meets the three required criteria listed above. Please address each guideline specifically.
  2. The proposed course syllabus.
  3. A supplemental reading list or bibliography.

  Additional information:

Please note that any department with a diversity course within the core curriculum may be asked to submit to the Diversity Committee or the Core Curriculum Board one copy of the course syllabus and examples of student assignments any semester that the course is offered. Failure to meet the core curriculum guidelines may result in a course being dropped from the core curriculum. It is expected that every course approved for the core curriculum will be taught at least once every two years. Approved courses which are not taught for two years will be dropped from the list and designated inactive, unless they are scheduled for the third year. To reactivate, a department must request review and submit an updated syllabus.
