Information for Faculty
Process for Approval of New Courses to Core Level Designation
Instructions to the faculty member:
- As you prepare the “New or Changed Course Proposal Form” for your college
and University Courses and Curriculum, you can apply for Core Designation
at the same time by including the requisite Core memos described below.
The forms can be located at the following site: www.unr.edu/catalog/uccc/forms.htm
- Proposals for the Core Board and sub-committees are required to be submitted
as MS Word files (or in MS Word format), HTML, or PDF files.
- The proposals will be sent from the Provost’s Office as your course proposal
moves through the process. The Core sub-committee will make every attempt
to process the proposal in an efficient manner. If there are questions needing
answers or more explicit information needed, the proposal may not be granted
Core Designation at the same time as approval by the University C &
C. We are attempting to eliminate one round of paperwork for the department
by having the proposals under consideration.
- Please include an email address and contact information.
The proposals need to include the following:
- A memo explaining how the course meets the
five guidelines for the capstone area,
guidelines for diversity courses or mission of the specific academic
area of the Core. Please address each guideline specifically.
- Provide information regarding course assessment of student learning and
assessment as it relates to the core curriculum objectives. Student assessment,
any external assessment and/or any newly planned methods of assessment.

- Explicit information regarding grading.
- Explicit information regarding integration of oral communication skills
or presentations, the writing component, exams. Also, include any information
regarding computation or math literacy skills where appropriate.

gained throughout their development in the core curriculum.
