Cole C. Campbell Dialogue on Democracy

In honor and memory of Cole C. Campbell, former dean of the Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, his wife, family and friends have established an endowment to create the Cole C. Campbell Dialogue on Democracy—a program of ongoing events and conversations designed to demonstrate the importance of journalism. A nationally distinguished journalist and educator, Cole was known for his intellect, wit and passion in pioneering new forms of journalism that engaged citizens and communities. He was passionate in his belief that journalism should play an essential role in a healthy democracy.

The Anniston Star along with the Journalism Department at the University of Alabama plan their first Campbell Symposium later this year and the Nieman Foundation for Journalism will sponsor a Dialogue for 2008. The Kettering Foundation will support the Campbell Dialogue network with research materials and other journalism schools and organizations throughout the country are exploring Dialogue opportunities.
