WELCOME

     The Institute for the Study of Gambling and Commercial Gaming was established by the University of Nevada, Reno in 1989. As the first academically oriented program of its kind, the Institute serves as a structure to broaden the understanding of gambling and the commercial gaming industries. Its aim is to encourage and promote research and learning so that the multifaceted issues surrounding gambling and commercial gaming and the ways in which individuals and society-at-large are affected might be addressed.

Reno-based IGT announces buyouts, layoffs
(RENO) -- The struggling economy is taking a toll on Reno-based International Game Technology. Executives at the world's largest maker of slot machines and casino systems say buyouts are being offered to workers, and an undetermined number will be laid off come January as the company tries to cut costs and ride out the economic turmoil.

CityCenter construction hits snag
(LAS VEGAS) -- Construction has slowed on The Harmon Hotel, Spa & Residences at CityCenter after some structural work was found not to match building plans submitted to Clark County. 

Steve Wynn that extends his employment with Wynn Resorts Ltd. til 2020
(LAS VEGAS) -- Wynn Resorts Ltd. (WYNN) has advised the Securities and Exchange Commission that it has amendment the employment agreement it has with Chairman and CEO Steve Wynn that extends his employment to Oct. 24, 2020.

New casino to hire 500 in West Siloam Springs
(OKLAHOMA) -- The new Cherokee Casino in West Siloam Springs is just a couple months away from completion, and they're getting ready to hire around 500 new employees. The casino in won't open until mid November, but it's already bringing excitement to the community.

Foxwoods slot revenue up; Mohegan still down
(CONNECTICUT) -- Players put more money through the slot machines at Connecticut’s casinos in August than they had during the same month a year ago, according to slot revenue numbers released Monday.

(CONNECTICUT) -- A penny for your thoughts? On Monday, Connecticut’s casinos will release the August slot machine revenue results, numbers which will show whether Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun continued their slide because of a soft economy and changing spending habits.

(MACAU) -- Shares of casino operators with Macau properties slid Wednesday on lackluster September revenue results.

Manila government's casino obsession
(PHILIPPINES) -- Last week, a senior economic official of the Manila government made a subtle endorsement of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s plans to construct a Las Vegas-style gambling complex in the country to save the economy from total collapse.
