Research Interests:

My laboratory is involved in a number of studies related to the toxicity and risk of disease associated with exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS). SHS represents a mixture of over 4,000 compounds emitted during smoking including a great number of carcinogens, mutagens, and other highly toxic compounds. We are currently funded to investigate the impact of air filtration systems on reducing the biological damage caused by secondhand smoke.  Mice exposed to SHS for 8 weeks will be monitored for biological damage including DNA damage and oxidative damage as well as for immunological changes in the lung. We are also interested in the effects genetic polymorphisms of important detoxification enzymes play in the initiation and progression of disease in SHS exposed individuals. My laboratory also conducts studies which look at the mechanism of action of several bioreductive anticancer agents and the biological effects of low dose exposure of non-target species to anticholinesterase agrochemicals.

I am interested in having a student join my laboratory group to work on the SHS study.
