The Department of Educational Specialties

Educational Specialties is a growing department in the College of Education at the University. Highly qualified faculty educated at well-known universities across the United States teach the undergraduate and graduate courses in the department.

The mission of the Department of Educational Specialties is to prepare preservice and inservice teachers who have a strong fund of knowledge, who engage in reflective practices, who love learning, and who value democracy and multiculturalism. Students may choose undergraduate and graduate programs in teacher preparation, upgrade knowledge for practicing teachers, or prepare to be a specialist in literacy or special education.

The College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education for the preparation of elementary and secondary teachers and school service personnel. The doctoral degree is the highest degree approved. The College of Education is also accredited by the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools and Colleges for all teacher education and undergraduate and graduate curricula.
