Dr. Homa Anooshehpoor is Adjunct Professor of Sociology. She received her Ph.D. from Arizona State University in 2000. Dr. Anooshehpoor's teaching interests include family, race and ethnic relations, theory, and social stratification. She is currently working as project research coordinator for the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.
Dr. Carl W. Backman is Professor Emeritus of Sociology. He received his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1954. Dr. Backman is the co-author of several books including Social Psychology, Understanding Social Life, and Problems in Social Psychology. He is also the author of numerous articles in the American Sociological Review, Psychological Review, Sociometry, and other scholarly journals. His areas of specialization include personality theory and relationships.
Dr. Paul La Marca is Adjunct Professor of Social Psychology and the Senior Director of Assessments, Accountability, and Curriculum for the Nevada Department of Education. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Nevada in 1995. Dr. La Marca has published articles in the area of educational measurement. His teaching interests include intergroup and race relations, research methodology, statistics, and measurement. His areas of specialization include educational equity and social/self development.
Dr. Bani Mahadeva is Professor Emerita and Adjunct Professor of Sociology. She is also affiliated with the Sanford Center for Aging. Prof. Mahadeva received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Bombay, India, in 1957. She has published numerous articles in a variety of scholarly journals. Her areas of research and teaching interest include the sociology of aging, the family, gender relations, and cross-cultural studies.
Dr. John Packham is Adjunct Professor of Sociology. He received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1992. Dr. Packham's teaching and research interests include sociology of health and illness, health and social policy in the US, and the social organization of work. He is formerly the Associate Director of the Master of Health Science in Health Policy Program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.
Dr. Mary White Stewart is Director of the Women's Studies Program. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1974. After teaching at the University of Missouri, Kansas City for fifteen years, she joined the faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno in 1989. Her areas of interest are family violence, gender, deviance and social psychology. Dr. Stewart is the co-author of Organized Miracles, and author of Silicone Spills: Breast Implants on Trial (1998), and Ordinary Violence: Everyday Assaults Against Women (2001).
Dr. Lyle G. Warner is Professor Emeritus of Sociology. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in 1967. He has taught at UNR from 1969 to 1994. Dr. Warner has published a number of articles in American Sociological Review, Sociological Inquiry, Social Forces and other scholarly journals. His areas of specialization include statistics and social psychology.
