Carlos Guevara-Mann is Assistant Professor of Political Science.
Dr. Guevara-Mann was born and raised in Panama, where he majored in Finance at the Catholic University (Universidad Católica Santa María La Antigua). As a Fulbright scholar, he studied at Ohio University, where he received the Master of Arts in International Affairs degree, with a major in Latin American Studies. At the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Guevara-Mann concentrated in Comparative and International Politics, with a geographical focus on Latin America. He received his PhD from Notre Dame in 2001.
Prior to joining the Department, Dr. Guevara-Mann worked in Panama as an assistant to the Panamanian Secretary of State, a credit manager for Lloyds TSB Bank, a consultant for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), and a professor at Florida State University, Panama Branch.
Dr. Guevara-Mann teaches courses on International Relations and Comparative Politics. His book Panamanian Militarism: A Historical Interpretation was published by Ohio University Press in 1996. A Spanish version was published in 1994 by Editorial La Prensa.
Dr. Guevara-Mann is preparing his research on the political behavior of Panamanian representatives for publication. Additionally, he is working on projects focusing on political leadership, electoral systems, and US-Latin American relations. In what little spare time he has, Dr. Guevara-Mann likes to travel, have good conversation, and write incendiary opinion editorials for the Panamanian newspapers.
