Thank
you for visiting the University of Nevada Reno's Program in
Jazz and Improvisational Music. We
are very happy to announce the release of our latest student
recording project, Time
and Place - 2006. The CD features 10 tracks, all of
them original compositions, performed by six groups involving
a total of 20 student musicians. The ensembles range in size
from duo to sextet and the tunes vary greatly, but throughout,
the musicianship is high and creativity wins the day.
Our students and faculty continually
look for ways to sustain and enhance educational and artistic
excellence in order to achieve our ultimate goal: To provide
undergraduate and graduate students with comprehensive knowledge
of this multifaceted and joyous art form known as jazz.
The Program emphasizes small group performance and original
composition, and encourages each student to develop his or her
own musical voice, concepts and ideas. In an ongoing expansion
of our existing program, we have recently added a Master of
Music degree in Jazz Performance and courses in Jazz Composition
and Jazz Rhythm Theory.
