Mr. R. Alan Sullivanis has been serving as Associate Director of Bands
at the University of Nevada since 1993, and assumed the responsibility
as Director of the Wolf Pack Marching Band in 2000. His other responsibilities
include conducting the Symphonic Band, and teaching courses in percussion
pedagogy and marching drill design. Mr. Sullivan also directs the Pep
Bands at indoor athletic events.
Mr. Sullivan, a native Nevadan, is a graduate of Chaparral High School
in Las Vegas. He received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from
Illinois State University, and the Master of Music Education degree
from Northeast Louisiana University. Prior to his appointment at the
University of Nevada, Mr. Sullivan served as Director of Bands at Western
High School in Las Vegas, and held similar posts at Amphitheater High
School in Tucson, Arizona, and St. Frederick High School in Monroe,
Louisiana.
Mr.
Sullivan is an alumnus of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, and is
currently an adjudicator for Drum Corps International. He has also
been actively involved with marching bands throughout the United States
and served as an adjudicator in numerous states and in Canada. In addition,
he has designed drill for many award winning bands in the Northern Nevada
area, as well as bands in other states.
Mr.
Sullivan has had several of his percussion arrangements published by
the William Allen Music Company. In addition, he performs with the Reno
Philharmonic and Nevada Festival Ballet orchestras, and has performed
with the Moody Blues, Flash Cadillac, Neil Sedaka, Don Rickles, Al Martino
and the Smothers Brothers. He holds membership in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia,
and the College Band Directors National Association.
