Damon
Stevens is Director of Nevada Chamber Opera for the University of Nevada,
Reno. Since joining UNR's faculty in 2003, he has musical directed Amahl
and the Night Visitors, L'Enfant et les Sortilèges, The Gondoliers,
The Medium and The Telephone, Die Zauberflöte, and Susannah,
as well as the opera scenes courses. In addition, Dr. Stevens frequently
music directs for UNR's Nevada Repertory Company; his productions with
them include Godspell, A…My Name Is Alice, The Threepenny Opera,
and Footloose. His productions regularly earn critical acclaim
from Opera News contributor, Jack Neal.
Dr.
Stevens earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Arizona State University,
summa cum laude, where he was named Outstanding Undergraduate Performance
Major. He received his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees
from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music, where
he studied piano with Eugene and Elisabeth Pridonoff, song literature
and vocal coaching with Kenneth Griffiths, and instrumental accompanying
with Sandra Rivers.
In
addition to directing the opera program, Dr. Stevens teaches private
piano lessons, group piano classes, and coaches voice. He has performed
both as soloist and collaborative pianist throughout the country in
such diverse venues as radio, television, and concert halls.
