Cody Remaklus teaches applied lessons in World Percussion and co-directs, along with Dr. Andrew Heglund, a section of the UNR percussion ensemble. Primarily a conga player, Cody has also studied many different forms of drumming and dance from Africa, Brazil, India, Iran and more. Cody holds a B.A. from UNR in Spanish and an M.F.A. in music performance from California Institute of the Arts.
Cody began playing professionally 15 years ago and has since toured the US, Latin America and Europe playing in several different groups. He performed in the Los Angeles area with Zadonu, a professional dance and drum ensemble created by Kobla Ladzekpo and dedicated to the traditional music of the Ewe people of Ghana. Cody recently returned to Reno and began teaching at UNR in the percussion department. In addition to teaching, Cody is studying Batá drums and playing throughout California and the Reno area.
