Kathleen
Jacobi-Karna is an assistant professor of music and the coordinator
of music education. She joined the faculty at the University of Nevada,
Reno in 2002.
Jacobi-Karna
received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Iowa State
University, a Master of Music in music education from the University
of Arizona, and a Ph.D. in music education, also from the University
of Arizona. In addition, she is certified in Orff-Schulwerk (Levels
I, II, II, and Masters) from the University of Memphis as well as the
first level of Kodaly training from the University of St. Thomas.
Prior
to coming to UNR, Kathleen served on the faculties of the University
of Oregon, Central Washington University, and Salisbury State University.
Her elementary general music specialist positions included the Salisbury
School-and independent school for students preschool through eighth
grade in Salisbury, Maryland-and Catalina Foothills School District
in Tucson, Arizona.
Jacobi-Karna
is active as a clinician throughout the country, presenting workshops
at the national (American Orff-Schulwerk Association, Kindermusik Educators
Association, International Reading Association), regional (Northwest
MENC), and state levels (Maryland, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada Music
Educators Associations). She has presented sessions for music educators
at local Orff-Schulwerk chapters and at state MENC organizations, as
well as for general classroom teachers and early childhood educators-such
as Read-Aloud Delaware, Delaware Association for the Education of Young
Children, and the Salisbury State University Children's Literature Conference.
Her research
focus is music and early childhood. She has presented research findings
at state (Oregon Music Educators Association), regional (Northwest Division
MENC), national (Music Educators National Conference), and international
(Early Childhood Commission - International Society of Music Education)
conferences.
