Nationally recognized University Wind Ensemble is comprised of fifty of the most select instrumentalists in the Department of Music. The ensemble meets during the Fall and Spring semesters with public performances presented to the University and Reno community. Music student benefits include annually recording sessions of new band literature for TRN Music Publisher and Wingert-Jones Music Company.
Recent Achievements
On March 4, 2010, at the Western/Northwestern Division Conference of the College Band Directors National Association, the University Wind Ensemble presented the World Premiere performance of a new work by Andrew Boysen, Jr., commissioned by the Band Directors from the Western and Northwestern Divisions of CBDNA.
Recently, Dr. Andrew Heglund was percussion soloist with the University Wind Ensemble for their performance of Joseph Schwantner's Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra.
Audition Information
The Department of Music considers this ensemble to be a Major Ensemble. Registered participation in Major Ensembles fulfills certain degree requirements. Find out more below and consult your advisor.
The Department of Music offers opportunities to any University student demonstrating sufficient musical ability to participate in performing ensembles. Because most of these ensembles require an audition, students should seek the instructor's approval prior to registration. Please contact the Band Office at (775) 784-6525 for more information.
