There are many different types of band playing styles, from carnival and scramble bands to military bands to college and university marching bands. Nevertheless, there is a uniqueness many of the styles share. They carry a tradition of energy and infectious enthusiasm bringing people of like minds emotionally together.
UNR's Band Department offers conducted and directed instruction for marching and athletic bands, symphonic band and wind ensemble. Exploring the great American, British and European traditions, the Department's instructors explore the literature that influenced the early development of band music, as well as modern and contemporary composers whose music keeps the tradition vibrant and alive.
