Dear Friend,
For years the Argenta Trio, the University of Nevada Reno’s premier chamber music ensemble, has been delighting the audiences of northern Nevada with world-class performances, adventurous programming, and exciting collaborations. When I joined the group as cellist two years ago, a particular vision began to take shape in my mind. A vision that the Argenta Trio season, - could serve as a foundation for a larger, more robust and continual chamber music experience. A vision that would attract a varied and devoted following, while appealing to a more diverse community. Today this vision has become a reality!
This fall, the UNR Music Department premieres its first annual Argenta Concert Series, an unprecedented offering of this kind in our region featuring nine performances spanning from September into May. A full-fledged subscription series that will feature the Grammy-winning Parker Quartet, internationally acclaimed guest artists Ida Kavafian and David Shifrin, dazzling jazz performances by our colleagues from The Collective, as well as a three-concert exploration of compositional "crossroads" by the Argenta Trio, celebrating their debut recording on Bridge Records this year. Other performances will feature a virtuoso tour-de-force with Stephanie Sant'Ambrogio and James Winn, a "Journey through Preludes" tracing the evolution of piano composition from Baroque to Contemporary with award-winning pianist Adela H. Park, and a performance of the complete Beethoven Sonatas for Cello and Piano, spanning the entire life of the Master from Bonn in one evening. I will keep you updated on many must-see free events, including pre-concert talks and master classes by visiting artists.
Join us on September 1st at 7:30 p.m. in Nightingale Concert Hall for "A Taste of Argenta", our first free event, which will feature music and a season presentation. Sign-up today for the entire season and help make the Argenta Concert Series, rooted in the traditions of the Argenta Trio, a new and exciting institution in our region.
Join us, for music awaits you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Dmitri Atapine, Artistic Director

Beethoven: Complete Sonatas for Cello and Piano
Dmitri Atapine and Adela H. Park
February 25, 7 p.m.
Nightingale Concert Hall
Ludwig van Beethoven's monumental cycle of five “Sonatas for Cello and Piano” is widely recognized as one of the founding pillars of cello repertoire. Spanning the composer's entire life, these works show the evolution in Beethoven's writing from boisterous youth, through heroic adulthood, and into the pensive and meditative sunset of introspection and timelessness. All five sonatas will be performed in a single evening with two intermissions by University music faculty member Dmitri Atapine, cello and guest pianist Adela H Park. This event, like no other, would provide a deeper insight into Beethoven's intimate chamber music ideals, and the astonishing evolution of his craft.
