Jo Landis
Jo is a PhD student in the Literature and Environment program. She comes to Reno from Seattle, WA, where she has lived her entire life beneath the clouds and drizzle of the Pacific Northwest. Jo earned a BA and MA in English (with a two year gap in between) at Western Washington University. At Western, Jo started to cultivate her interest in nineteenth-century American and British literature, particularly in terms of gender, space, and place. Since then, Jo “discovered” the field of ecogothic literature, and hopes that this approach will help her fuse her interest in nineteenth-century texts, cultural studies, and ecocriticism.
When she’s not reading, writing, or teaching (which usually just leaves a bit of time for sleeping), Jo loves to hike and camp, hang out with her two cats (Figaro and Bean), play ultimate frisbee, go to farmer’s markets, and keep up with the latest celebrity gossip.
