Sylvan Goldberg
Sylvan Goldberg grew up in Portland, OR, earned his BA (English/creative writing) at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, and spent a few years playing music, writing, and feeling mostly unproductive before landing at UNR. His academic interests include literary representations of frontiers and the American West, American modernism, and, increasingly, ideas of performativity in queer theory. He tried surfing once in southern California and dislocated his shoulder, which means you're more likely to find him paddling one-armed in a trough between waves of ecocritical theory rather than at the crest of any particular wave. He doesn't have time for many nonacademic interests these days, but if you treat him to a couple fingers of rye whiskey, you can probably get him talking about what those would be if he did have time.
