Internships
The internship is a required part of the L&E PhD program, and an optional component of the L&E MA program. Typically the internship is structured as a "triangle" of participants: the student, who does credit-earning work that contributes to their professional development and allows them to make a contribution to some important effort or organization outside the English Department; the faculty mentor("instructor of record"), who communicates with the student about expectations for the internship, and who evaluates the student's internship participation and the work they produce; the field contact at whatever organization the student is serving as an intern.
In the past, L&E students have participated in internships at a wide variety of organizations and groups, including the following:
- Great Basin Institute
- Friends of Nevada Wilderness
- U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
- Nevada Econet
- Sierra Club
- University of Nevada Press
- Black Rock Press
- Tahoe Wilderness Institute
- Bureau of Land Management
- Washoe County School System
- Nevada Museum of Art
- Special Collections Department, UNR Library
- Oral History Program, UNR
