Trails Near Reno

Keystone Canyon

You can park either in San Rancho Rafael Park, one block north of N. McCarran on Virginia St on left, or on the Federal land accessed via N.McCarran across from where Keystone Ave. dead ends.

Coming from campus, go north on Virginia and either go straight one block past McCarran or turn left on McCarran,
go up the hill, and turn right into the parking area by the water tank.

Trails: There's lots of ‘em--4WD roads that people walk, bike, and ride ORV's and motorbikes on, as well as single track for mountain biking.Great for dogs, too.

Hunter Creek

Go west on Mayberry Dr. off of McCarran along the Truckee River. Turn left into Juniper Ridge community and drive uphill.
Turn right onto Mountaingate and go to the parking area on right.

Trails: If the Steamboat Ditch is full, you can keep your feet dry by skirting behind the fence along the ditch and cross with the footbridge.

Walk back about a mile on dirt roads toward Hunter Creek (there's a plank on the left), and cross.

Stay on the dirt road for the Steamboat Trail which will eventually take you to behind the Patagonia facility.

Or take the single track into the Mt. Rose wilderness (no bikes) for a more rugged, pretty hike. Great for dogs.

Patagonia Trailhead

From McCarran, go west on Fourth St. Take the second left after Mayberry Dr.

Go across RR tracks and turn right on White Fir. Follow around till you see the Patagonia sign (before bridge).

Park on street or in their lot.

Trails: Walk across the pedestrian, bridge and follow trail up the hill. Lots of ways to go.

Dogs like this place, too. So do mountain bikers.

Truckee River Trail

For biking or rollerblading in the city, this trail is handy.

Runs the length of the Truckee and out both sides of the city.

It can be crowded and after it rains the underpasses will smell like urine (but who says it'll ever rain again?).

Not a good trail for dogs except on leashes. Nice scenery in places and a good workout!

There are lots of access points so just explore or ask.
